Just Breathe--Traveler's Notebook Spread

Hi friends!

Today, I am creating in my traveler's notebook and I wanted to bring you along and encourage you to find a few minutes to create. Sometimes, scrapbooking and creating can get a little bit overwhelming with all of the inspiration and complicated techniques out there. Sometimes, I just need to take a step back and keep it simple. I need to write what's on my heart and create just to create in those small pockets of time when I can find a few minutes.

QUICK TIP: When I create a traveler’s notebook spread, I always push my left and right side pages together and create it like one little layout and then cut it in half as my very last final step. This really seems to help with the placement of embellishments as well as symmetry on my layouts.

This traveler's notebook layout was super easy to create combining pieces from the Road Trip collection as well as the Nature's Bliss 6x6 Paper Pack. I used one of those patterned paper pieces as the basis for my layout and backed it with a thin black cardstock border that I punched with my notebook edge punch.

Then, I used a piece of ephemera from the Road Trip ephemera pack (the yellow license plate and the light green geotag) and punched the edge of a 3x4 quote card with the notebook border punch. Next, I stamped the compass stamp from the Road Trip stamp set in the top left corner and the bottom right corner. The mountain piece was fussy cut from one of the 3x4 pocket page cards and then I fussy cut a few license plates from the back side of that same 3x4 pocket page card.

I finished things off with some journaling as well as a few sequins from some of my favorite SpiegelMom Scraps sequin mixes. My title "Just Breathe" was the perfect final addition to bring it all together. This layout came together really quickly and gave me a little creative outlet in the middle of a very busy day. I challenge you to find a pocket of even fifteen minutes of time to create something just for the fun and joy of creating!

September Counterfeit Kit Challenge

Hello Scrappy Friends!

I am super excited to finally be able to announce that I have partnered up with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog for the month of September! I have the honor of being a guest designer but I also got to design a Secret Not Secret Kit Club exclusively curated kit just for their challenge this month! To find out more about that kit, the challenges, and all of the information, click here.

Let me start off by sharing the kit that I designed for their challenge this month. This is the kit that everyone will use as inspiration to create their own kits to work from throughout the month. They asked for a kit that wasn’t too bright in colors and would work for both masculine and feminine layouts. I wanted to give it a little bit of a travel vibe since we are moving out of the summer months and into fall as well as choosing a bit more masculine color palette.

In this kit, I decided to include lots of elements from Vicki Boutin as well as from Cocoa Vanilla’s Boys Rule.

In this kit, I decided to include lots of elements from Vicki Boutin as well as from Cocoa Vanilla’s Boys Rule.

The next task was to design a kit of my own to use throughout the month that was inspired by this one. I loved the more masculine color palette as well as the use of kraft and elements of black and white. I kept to basically the same formula of patterned paper, stickers, and die cut ephemera when I designed by own stash kit.

I decided in my own kit to go with a slightly more camping related theme and included several elements from Simple Stories Happy Trails collection. I happened to have the same kraft and white tags as well as the same stencil in my personal stash so I included those in this kit as well. The one major difference was that I included more stamp sets as well as less embellishments. I wanted to try my hand at creating some of my own embellishments to coordinate with this kit so instead of including lots of embellishments, I decided to include things like blank tags, cork speciality paper, and lots of fun stamp sets. I can’t wait to share more about what i have in store for this kit throughout the month1 I even threw in a 6x8 Vicki Boutin paper pad that was partially used in case I wanted to add some extra pops of color like in the original kit. I also made sure to keep some ledger and text papers in both kits as these are two of my favorite types of patterned paper to create with and I find them super versatile.

I hope that you enjoyed seeing the original Secret Not Secret Kit Club hand-curated kit that I designed as well as my own personal stash kit that i will be creating with throughout the month. i would love if you would play along too! Make sure to join us over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge all month long as we play with these fun kits!

Why Limit Happy?!?! Scrapbook Layout

Hi friends!

Today, I am back with another layout created using the latest Talk Foodie To Me collection. As I was playing around with this collection, I realized that it would actually be perfect for some pool photos. We have a giant pineapple pool float and it coordinated perfectly with this collection! I have also been trying to play along with my friend Christy (from Christy's Beautiful Life) this month in her 30 days of sketches challenge so I chose today's sketch to work with as well. I just love working with sketches because they help the creative ideas start to flow!

Here is today's sketch and my layout with it....

Day Twenty Nine.jpg

I knew that the fruity patterned paper was the perfect starting place because it matched perfectly with my theme and would work in the top section of the sketch. I then added a thin strip of brighter pink paper and decided that to add some additional dimension, my fringe scissors would really add some fun texture.

Then, I just started building embellishment clusters in each of the three locations where the sketch suggested them. The sketch itself used snowflakes and circles but I changed it up to include fruit and hexagons. Those hexagons....punched from the pocket cards that coordinate with the Talk Foodie To Me collection!

In order to create a cohesive look since I used so many different patterns, I used my Catherine Pooler Party Dress ink pad to ink all of the edges. For embellishments, I just started layering and layering. I tried to make sure that each cluster had larger pieces layered with medium size, small, and mini confetti embellishments by including things like the Talk Foodie To Me collection die cuts, mini puffy stickers, epoxy flair badges, and enamel dots & shapes. It was super fun to keep adding little details to create more and more dimension and detail. I used dimensional adhesive with some of the elements for a little extra dimension and interest as well.

I hope that you enjoyed reading a little bit about my process and if you want to hear more, make sure to stop by my channel and check out the process video that goes with this layout. Today, I want to challenge you to grab your favorite sketch (or try out the one that I used) and create a layout! Remember that sometimes your favorite collections can be used for a slightly different purpose (ex. I used the talk foodie to me collection to create a pool layout) to create a new look. Happy Creating!
